Level: Senior Leadership / Head of Department

Reporting to: CEO / Board of Directors

Direct Reports: Finance Officer (HQ)

Stakeholder Integration: Strategic partner to the Head of AdTech & Media Solutions

Oversight Scope: Kenya (HQ), Nigeria, Ethiopia, and future expansion markets

Role Summary

The Head of Finance is the chief financial steward of 5DM, responsible for group-wide financial health, strategic planning, and commercial profitability. This role is a hybrid of High-Level Financial Governance and Commercial AdTech Specialization.

A critical component of this role (70%) is the integration with the media buying function to ensure profitability and complex billing accuracy. Furthermore, you will provide strategic oversight (rather than direct implementation) for branch finance functions in Nigeria and Ethiopia, ensuring that regional teams maintain local statutory compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial AdTech & Media Profitability (70% Focus)

  • Media Margin Architecture: Collaborate with the AdTech lead to monitor real-time campaign profitability. Analyze the arbitrage between media costs (Google, Meta, Programmatic) and client billings to protect margins.
  • Agency Incentive Management: Design and manage the financial framework for agency incentives and rebates associated with long-term service contracts.
  • Complex Billing Systems: Oversee the billing infrastructure for full-service managed accounts and the self-service “Path” tech suites.
  • Supplier & Supply-Side Payables: Manage the strategic payables cycle for global platforms (DSPs, SSPs) and data providers. Maintaining 5DM’s credit reputation with these partners is a mission-critical function.

Group Financial Management & Strategy

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements for the Board.
  • Working Capital & Cash Flow: Plan and optimize the company’s working capital, ensuring liquidity for high-volume media buys while managing client payment cycles.
  • Capital & Banking Relations: Manage relationships with financial institutions, overseeing corporate credit facilities and foreign exchange (FX) strategies across multiple currencies.
  • Audit & Internal Controls: Direct the group-wide annual audit process and maintain a robust internal control framework to mitigate financial risk.

Regional Oversight & Compliance Governance

  • Branch Oversight (Nigeria & Ethiopia): Provide high-level oversight of branch finance functions. Ensure regional teams are operating independently yet in alignment with group financial policies.
  • Statutory Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all regional branches maintain all relevant business licenses and adhere to local statutory requirements, including pensions, social security, and labor-related financial filings.
  • Tax Governance: Oversee the group’s tax strategy, ensuring regional teams are compliant with local VAT, Withholding Tax (WHT), and Digital Service Taxes.
  • New Market Readiness: Develop the financial blueprints for entry into new markets, ensuring proper legal and financial structures are in place.

Leadership & Team Management

  • HQ Leadership: Manage and mentor the Finance Officer at HQ, delegating day-to-day transactional tasks such as bookkeeping, basic AP/AR, and payroll processing.
  • Regional Finance Mentorship: Act as a senior advisor to finance leads in branch markets, ensuring they have the tools and policies needed to remain compliant.
